That is a RANDOM number that has been tossed around but the SOP does not say much more than this.
NECK:
Hackle -- Lustrous deep copper, neither yellow nor mahogany. Some feathers, especially in the lower hackle, may include a narrow dark stripe through the middle of each feather, terminating in a point near its lower extremity.
Front of neck -- Black with markings of deep copper.
NYRED... I think.... said if he had 2 BCM roos one with Copper on the neck and one without..... He would pick the one WITHOUT copper everytime with everything else being equal.
Is there a picture of a breed standard hen and rooster available?
Quick question: Do all Marans have to have feathered legs? My roo does not, and I showed him this past summer but received no comments about it from the judge. I've never raised them before, so I would've know. Can someone help out? Is he a mix? That may be the case because the breeder we bought him from was not reliable, as we later found out. He looks identical to the ones pictured above, minus the feathered legs.
Oops! X2 the whole sentenceI miss read that... you are talking about HENS not ROOS... NONE on hens. Just copper in the hackles on hens.
