Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I don't think so if I am picturing what you mean.........  Seems like I have heard something about this before and maybe cutting the webbing between the two toes?  Anyone with experience on this???  Please don't attempt this unless others chime in, it may have been a dream..........
The outter toe and middle toe are webbed

I have one such chick right now i decided It is a genetic defect, so the chick may be great for eggs but I would not use her to make babies. I have heard and read that cutting it can be done, but I haven't done it because i don't want to muddle it up with ones not having this defect. So far it doesn't bother the chick but if it becomes an issue then i will look into it, if its a rooster i guess it will go to freezer camp but i think is is a girl actually.

how old is yours?

Quote: It is genetic. I used a rooster one year with webbed toe, and he produced a ton of chicks with it...He was a beautiful roo, but....
It usually happens when the bird has a lot, probably too heavy, foot feathering. It seems to go hand in hand. Its pretty common in breeds like Cochins, Silkies, etc. that have heavy feathering.

Thank you for the info. I bought the hatching eggs from 2 different sellers on eBay so I better let them know eek :)

I see everywhere the posts and problems of TOO MUCH color on a rooster.... is too little just as detrimental? This guy hatched from e-bay eggs, his hatchmate brother is too colorful but this guy has NO color anywhere. The two hatchmate sisters looked great with copper hackles but one was dead in the coop yesterday morning. Hatched Oct 12 so almost 4 months old. Beginning to wonder if he is a late bloomer or maybe a mixed breed? He looks good in every other aspect given his age. Light feathering on his legs, you can't see it in this photo.
