Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Here are my so called girls lol. I was told when they were sold to me that these Bcm were pullets, which I wanted. But I found out they are infact roos.
They are 6 months old and are very playful. I have a BO with them but she is very young about 4 months old. I hope to at least get eggs from her.

Did you contact the seller and let them know......maybe they will exchange?

The person I got him from says she has no cuckoos whatsoever.... only BC M's

I think I see little teeny tiny bits of copper here and there in the neck. Not much , u have to look hard.. also he has a single green feather in his tail.. almost like bcm traits are poking thru.
I think there probably was a Cuckoo in the background, probably before the person you got them from....it can skip a few generations and then show up if the genes line up right. I would not keep that rooster and be aware of not doing that breeding again. The person you got the BCM very well could not be aware of any Cuckoos in her lines, if she got her stock from someone else and that person added the Cuckoos in and forgot to tell her. My theory anyways.....

Are you posting by phone or on the computer? Some people find they can't really post from phone or it is sporadic. From the computer, go to the reply screen below and look for a square with a little house in it. When you click on it a menu will pop up and you can click the "upload photos" button to find the picture on your computer.
(My experience) The reason for that is due to the size of the pics when on the computer you have to edit your picture file to compress it (web page or email size) save it as a different file name so you keep your original sized picture and then it will allow you to post it. It took me quite awhile to figure that one out. Now if I use my phone and on the BYC app I don't have any issues choosing from my pics I've taken there. It's just any I used a camera for and have uploaded to my pc.

Are they crowing? My roosters looked much more masculine at that age.

They are definite cockerels, besides the comb, thickness of shanks etc, you can clearly see saddle feathers and wing bow color coming in. Pullets do not have saddle feathers.
I must not have good eye sight, because I looked, and couldn't find any saddle feathers. lol. As for the comb, I have hens that have combs like that, and I always forget to look at the legs.

I just click on the original poster's photo and it will enlarge

Ah, Ok, I see it now lol. I'll be getting pictures of by BLCM chicks tomorrow. I have two pullets and a rooster from straight run. Not bad! Oh, and the rooster is for sale, he is from the same strain as my existing rooster.
