;-) I'd thought of posting before
but was never sure what I should say, since I am a complete newbie, whose chicks are going though their 'fuglies' in the extreme... So I guess I should say 'hi' too.... I can't wait till I'm not such a newbie ;-)

While I"ve had chickens for a lot of years of my life I only heard of BCM about a year ago and spent months trying to find some close to me! I got these in Nov/Dec. The first rounds of culling roos was easy, had some real ugly boys that were no where near close to the SOP. This round is tougher because they all have different strengths and weaknesses. This forum has been invaluable to me; BTW I have read this thread and the regular Marans thread from the beginning; copy & paste important bits into a Word file to reread later.;-) I'd thought of posting beforebut was never sure what I should say, since I am a complete newbie, whose chicks are going though their 'fuglies' in the extreme... The copy/pasting is what I'm doing/been doing :-DWhile I"ve had chickens for a lot of years of my life I only heard of BCM about a year ago and spent months trying to find some close to me! I knew enough from reading here that when I saw flaming orange boys on craigslist that they were not anywhere near the SOP. But I am still new to this and trying to remember everything, especially little details like checking eyes, ears, middle toes.... is hard. The copy/pasting is what I'm doing/been doing :-D
I figure, I got my chicks from locals, although maybe not the top breeders around, they were what I could get, and one they are grown out I can go hunting for what I need to complement.... If I don't have a decent roo out of my 13 or so chicks....
They hate me with a passion, so the only way I can get a clear pic is to pin them down, I hate doing it, but they will freak, and hurt them selves if I don't. It does seem that the heavily feathered one has a wider tail.
I have some supposedly cottage hill line BCM's and so far they all have had white feathers that disappeared when they matured... its' kinda weird, some of them even had feathers that are half white
and half black. I really like them actually they seem to have larger heads and a little higher station than the wade jean ones that i have. The pullets have nice copper too.. wish i had more of them. You can see pics in my ad at the bottom of the page.
