Black Copper Marans discussion thread

does anybody have any show quality roosters or hens for sale? my roo is starting to show white in his tail

and i just need more hens.
Too bad you don't live near me, I am selling my show quality flock, 4 hens and 2 roo.....expanding to other colors and the spouse gave me the evil eye when he counted 25 BCM hens in one pasture.....

I'm still trying to play match maker with my marans and trying to keep a biosecure area keeps me from having any other eyes to help me out so I need some forum friends :) Marans are new to me and I acquired stock from several sources so that I don't need to stress over quarantining any new blood in the future and of course so I have more birds to choose from.
I have many roos to pick apart so any critique is welcomed no matter how petty. They are all banded different colors so that I can differentiate... !!! Caution !!! I am not a professional photographer!

This is purple..he's almost 6 months old and seems to be on track to be a monster

Oh no!! Let me figure out why the pics aren't posting...

I just don't understand photobucket...it works or it doesn't. I don't do anything different than I ever do and sometimes it just gives me grief.
I'll have to figure it out later I guess

Sorry :(

I am new to raising chickens and got my first egg yesterday! It is from one of my Black Copper Marans. She laid another today so we are on the way to having lots of fresh eggs.

STEAMED right now- neighborhood dog who roams the neighborhood and opens all the gates just opened 3 of my gates to get to my chickens and killed my most promising BCM cockerel.  GRRRR.  The neighbors are nice and they do have an electric fence for him but have been lax about keeping doors/gates shut.  She promised to be more vigilant and I am putting hasp pins on all my gates even though it will mean my kids won't be able to handle the gates anymore.  It's the first time he's killed anything although he has let himself into my yard before now.  I am going to let it go as upsetting as it is, since our dog occasionally climbs our fence and gets their trash.  Plus technically we are inside city limits although we are on the edge and it is a small rural town so we don't want to go alienating any neighbors.... so I just told her I don't want it to happen again.

Such a bummer. Sorry to hear.
