Black Copper Marans discussion thread

whats your thoughts on this one being a hen or rooster so far at this age?

There is so much info on this thread! I have yet to read it all.

Can anyone help me with my Maran. Just got this little one. 3 months old said to be pure black copper maran.

I am also new to chicken keeping so learning every day.

I noticed this one has copper on the neck every so slightly.

What has me more worried is the white feathers on the wings (just 1-2 feathers at the ends of the wings).

There is a slight shimmer (very very slight), but I thought this came with hens and roosters in the maran breed.

Pictures below.

Take a real good look at the body feathers and see what is up with all the feather shafting and your young pullet. I believe this pullet is most likely crossed with something. Shafting is where the quill of the feather is lighter than the balance of the feather is not wanted for an SOP bird, just fine for a backyard layer though.

I am going to sell my Black Copper Marans flock to work on other colors. If anyone close to Tennessee is interested please PM me. I have 1 rooster and 6 hens. I have been working with them a couple of years and they are getting better all the time. I will get some picture up in a day or so if anyone is interested.
