Black Copper Marans discussion thread

That is quite a large egg for your first pullet egg!
I saw her in person!  The bird that is.  What a great show.  I had no idea you were a BYCer.  The egg table was fun.  Do you have more pictures of her??

I forget the camera I used my phone, i show Marans,Orpington, Cochin.
I can't bring my roo, he have broken wing feathers :(. Last fall he win BB BV, class champion, champion continental.

Not a Marans I know... but this guy had a very bad wing. Either Split wing or twisted wing but something was wrong. This is your first clue.

Donna, when the wing primarys are hanging like the bird it is called a slip wing, sometime if you see a wing hanging a little it will be a weak wing like the young cockerels appear to have maybe, they will have weakness but not split, When you open and refold them the primary will close over the Secondary feathers. these are all DQs

When the better judge is going over a slip wing or weak wing he will take his pointer and try and move the hanging part up and if it does not stau will DQ the bird.

Thank you Margitas for sharing. I look forward to more pics of your birds. I am paring up my birds now and doing this:

Quote: OK - late getting them, but here's some picts.

Hurra's head. See the little white speckles on his earlobes?

And legs. I can't seem to get him to stand still so I can get one from the front - so all I get are either the feathery outside or the lighter inside.

Edited to add a wider shot of his legs.

This male appears to have yellow-green feet and shanks and white earlobes all of DQs.

Pretty aprons on your girls! I just bought a bunch of new bright pretty colors of material to make my girls some new ones. Some of the black and blue copper girls got so big and fat now that their old ones don't fit anymore lol. There is a lot of roo loving going on around here because of our warm 'winter'' I guess lol. The girls feathers are really a mess.

Canesisters... that bird in the middle.... pretty. Mutt?

The one who looks like she's wearing tweed feathers? Yeah. She was supposed to be a green egg laying EE. When she finally started laying, she lays nice dark-ish brown ones. She was the sweetest baby but has gotten a bit flighty as she grew up.
