some lay amazingly well, and others are horrible. I like number one, because his coloring is coming along nicely, and he has a nice back and head shape, but doesn't have feathered feet. I like number two because of his over all shape, and look, but he should have some more color on him by now. Number three has good color, good shape, and good feathering, but if he's really small he might not be the best idea.

Thank you for the input. He is only a wee bit smaller, but also shorter in body. His head is not as long either. I dunno....

You need to keep 2 roosters. If you just keep one, you are tempting fate. When I keep just one, something always happens & I'm left with none.

I had a nice BCM but he was missing some toes. another one from the same hatch just never grew. I let the guy who I got them know about this and he is going to make it right. I got the chicks at a day old. gave the missing toe rooster away as a pet and the unthrifty chick just died.

That is called rudimentary toe. They are common in breeds with feathered legs like Marans. It is not a DQ or a fault. I personally don't like to breed them, got to be genetic too. I would not cull a great roo if that was his only flaw.

Good morning all. Is anyone on the thread close enough to attend the Sussex NJ Poultry Show the 18? I'm looking for FBCM eggs or chicks (or even a couple pullets and a cockerel) bred to follow sop as close as possible and for a nice egg color. I'm not a fan of shipping eggs. Here in NJ it's nearly impossible to find anything and the last chicks I had shipped had some yellow leg problems so I didn't keep any of them. Thanks for any help.

Yep You are so right lol.... Well my girls lol I mean boys are now crowing. They are now 7 months old. Now I only have one bo pullet not yet 6 months old and she is the only one I have . I don't know if I should get rid of one of the roos they cost me a lot and they seem to have a love hate relationship lol.... What do you all think. My husband says get rid of one and keep one and get more hens. I don't know what I should do. But I do have them both for sale of craigs list just to see if I could get my money back to invest in more hens. Im sticking with bos from now on. I love that bird breed so loving. But should I keep one or get rid of both. Also by looking at the pic what do you think there rating would be? meaning are they a good looking roo?

Hello I am new to this thread. My youngest daughter is the Pres of the local 4-H, and has been showing chickens for 2 years, This Spring I was fortunate to find a wonderful lady that traded us some hatching eggs to put in the bator, we set 12 eggs, one came out on day 7, 4 did not hatch. the yellow one is a BCM cross with a Partridge Penedesenca. other six all BCM, two weeks and two days old, under a heat lamp.(ie red hue)

You might have some BC in there, but I don't see feathers on any shanks.
The yellow is probably not Black Copper x Partridge Pene because the only chicks that have yellow down are either white or wheaten based.
Some lines of Black Copper have Wheaten pop out at times, it is quite common, and this is more likely.

You might get some that lay nice dark eggs!

It wasn't his only flaw. too much copper in the breast. Mossy saddleback and not as square as my other roosters. Right now I have some outstanding roosters and getting some more from different lines so being very selective. Very selective on my hens as well.

Well 3 pretty little pullet eggs today; so excited they are laying. Now just waiting for them to lay big girl eggs so I can decide who to breed from. The pic is pretty close to real color.
