Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Best of luck, Blarney! make sure to oil his legs, comb, & wattles so they're nice & spiffy! Also, file down the sharp points on his toenails...that's much appreciated by judges! (Sorry, not trying to tell you what to do...just thought I'd add some words of encouragement!)

What do you use to oil his legs, comb, and wattles?

IS it just for looks or some other purpose too?

Wait, forget the comment about the male. Almost looks like a dark male. Sorry with the young females with a older hen made me miss judge her as a male.

Haha I did the same- had to go back and look again! You are right! That older hen definitely should have copper.

I'm new to BCMs too - trying to learn and understand the progressions from juvies to adults. If the bird in question is an older hen, and it's the same bird in the single 'sedum' photo, then the white wingtips would be an issue?

White tipped feathers aren't an issue until they are adults...some people say after the molt, but I think that they should not have them after they shed their juvenile feathers. My issue is the feathers appear laced to me.

Sue, I think where the lacing comes into play is they have mostly a Purple sheen instead of the much wanted Green sheen.
