Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I'm wanting to use 2 Bators. One for the first 18 days and then the 2nd for the lockdown period. Can I add eggs to the Bator that I use for 18 days? Or is this to risky?

Yes you can add eggs to the first incubator at any time just keep track of what eggs are on what day. On day 18 move them to the second incubator "hatcher". Just make sure when you add eggs that they aren't supposed to go into the hatcher at the same time other eggs are already hatching. I would give at least five days between each time you add eggs so they wont interfere with the eggs already in lockdown.

I've been doing just that for years. I set weekly & move eggs in turn to the hatcher on day 18 of their cycle. Works fine-it's basically what the hatcheries do to hatch thousands of eggs.

I know this isn't the sale thread, but if anyone has some nice, BQ or SQ French BCM or Blue Copper Marans pullets available, please PM me. I have 3 really nice roos and want to start a second, unrelated flock. I am in VA but willing to drive to pickup or pay shipping on 6-8 pullets/young hens.

Here are some pictures of one of my new girls. She is almost 3 months old. Her feathers are a little wet due to the rain this morning (she is still learning where "home" is). Give me some insight as to what I am working with! Thanks!

I think she looks good so far. Everything looks proper for her age; won't be able to truly tell quality until she is older. The white wing feather will grow out with her last molt before adult feathers. Congrats!

Yay! That makes me so happy. The 3 new little girls are settling in nicely and seem infatuated with my ducks :idunno . They just watch the ducks so intently you would think they were confusing them for their mother!

At what age do BCM's get their copper? I'm fairly confident I have two roos, and right now all their plumage is black. They are around 6 weeks old.
