My understanding is the longer they take to copper up the better (unless they don't get any copper at all). I have pullets 8-10 months that are just getting some copper in their hackles and it can take 18 months I've heard. The cockerels that are getting copper at 4-6 weeks will have too much and are dinner-bound.here are some of my BCMsthey are going to be egglayers (not breeders). 3 mos old
this girl has very RED feathers in her neck (she is my favorite personality wise):
the other girl has COPPER neck:
this girl is feathering so beautifully... but she does not have any copper yet! only a couple small specks of copper.
I am interested to see if more copper comes through as she matures

I do not know, is it more desirable to have copper or red in the neck feathers? this is just for curiosity's sake, they won't be bred anyway![]()

does the red ever change to copper through moulting or does the color generally stay the same?
