Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hi been reading for hrs can anyone tell me if these are black copper Marans they were sold to me as black broilers but they are 14 almost 15 weeks old and are still not even close to broiler size. I think they are BCM.

Did you purchaset these from a reputable breeder? These look like BCM but if they were sold as black broilers they may have been from a test mating and the breeder knows they have a problem in their genetics and should not be bred forward. With the number you have I can't believe the breeder did not know what breed they had but that is a possibility.

X 2, good answer.

@scflock I would cull them all and start over. Every bird you got from that breeder will throw yellow skinned birds.....you so be forever culling and putting birds out that will continue to pollute the Marans that are floating around. Not worth working with.....you might get a handful of birds that are not carriers out of 50 chicks.

I hope someone can help. I hatched this guy out of some eggs I bought on Ebay (I know, I know - never again). I bought lavender orpington eggs. This was the only one to hatch. I think he is a copper marans (probably mixed). What do you all think? He is four months old. I don't have any copper marans so I am not familiar with this breed.

I agree, he looks like a Marans mix.
