It looks to me like both of my boys have shafting. What do you guys think?

Well I tried to get a couple pics of another roo today.
I am wondering about the color on this one. I think it is really nice to look at but not sure if it is okay, he is very dark red as opposed to a copper color. I will post pics of him from each side and one of him next to another roo to show the contrast between their two colors.
Snowbird, I would love your take on my more recent posts with pics of my LP roo and hens!

That dark male looks from these photos to have way too level a back. Their back should be sloped down from head to tail. Type should come before color.
Number 1 has the least, but he's trying to have lacing. However--if they have good type- type is more important than colour at this point- I'd breed them, and see what their pullets are like. And by that I mean-- see how the eggs are.

To me- Marans are meant to have VERY dark eggs- I don't call my cuckoos "Marans" because they have proven to produce paler eggs--although they came from good dark eggs they did not reproduce this trait, so I think it was perhaps the breeding roosters fault. I hatched from shipped eggs many years ago, but have kept a few in my mixed flock.

These male do not have anything that resembles Lacing, Do not worry about lacing here.
Just for clarification 'Shafting and Lacing are two completely different things' . (Pipe Dreaming) There is no lacing but there is plenty of shafting on this cock bird .These male do not have anything that resembles Lacing, Do not worry about lacing here.Number 1 has the least, but he's trying to have lacing.
