These are the girls that I'm working with for him hopefully

Just for what it's worth, I tried starting with a flock with that much straw in the hackles, along with other issues, and after a wasted year I will have to scrap the whole flock and start over. Out of curiosity, do any of them have yellow feet?

Nope, all correct feet. The lady I got them from as chicks was breeding strictly for egg color, at the expense of proper 'form'. I initially got the one with barely any straw or copper for a cross into my golden cuckoo strain to improve color.

Not bcm, but I borrowed the straw color from my straw hackled bcm to create him and his 7 brothers out of 9 chicks, lol. The little guy in the pic.

sorry having a problem loading a photos for the moment.
in Australia is other way around, the black chicks are from a pure BCM stock.imported as fertile eggs from France ,1) is Darwin Line I managed to get hold of 4 Dozens eggs last year ,the darkest eggs in all the BCM lines in the country. 2) Sloane line .I managed to a Trio last year nice eggs color 6.
The penguin type one are made in this country 15 years ago ( Wheaten x Langshan ) all sort of problem with this lines.and they do have white feathers.
I finished reading this thread and others too. I can see you guys in the state having the opposite .penguin type good Adult , black type , Darker or all Black adult.
Have a look at the Australian Maran Club , there is a note on breeding ,they have a photos of all chicks hatch down of all the maran variety. you will see Extended Black E/E chicks are penguin type. and the Birchen( black copper or Silver Black ) are more Black.
there is some marans line are from the Extended Black E/E . So that why with a BCM both are accepted E/E and ER/ER .
The French prefer the Black type chicks. the rest is breeding and selecting especially a cockerels lines.
I ll send the photos soon I fix this problem I m having with my files . cheers.

Hi here are some photos of the same black chicks from BCM line I posted early on.They have a nice coppery color and pure black no white on them.

No White feathers and nice balance between the copper and the Black. this are full growing and my breeders for this year.they are throwing nice balanced chicks.

The first 2 photos are Walker the father .the second 2 photos are his son Wallace Notice on his tail are white spots and his feet are more pinkish.I test mated him this spring with a black hens without any copper or a little but NO White feathers.I have more than 40 chicks from him befor he died last month.

How can you tell the difference ? From pure to OE? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question . I'm curious because I'll breed my Maran with my Ee, BR , Aussie ect....

the only stupid question is the one that is never asked!

I am not an expert, I hope someone who knows it will give you the answer.

I plan to breed bcm roo with different breeds. but I will hatch the eggs separately (marans eggs will be pure, blue/green eggs will be oe, NN's eggs will be dark layer NNs, etc).
