Black Copper Marans discussion thread

this is my little boy who doesn't like camera:

he is about 3 months old. just got rid of the dry pox, poor little thing.

We got our first eggs this week from one of our girls (out of 6)

Thought I would share! Next to an Easter egger egg for comparison. Still small but I decent coloring only have gotten 2 eggs so far!

I have a wonderful cockerel. I'm not sure if his coloring and body is up to standards. Either way he is staying. Such a sweetie! Poor guy just had a ear infection. I was able to heal. Which Made him even sweeter! Anyways, I'm trying to breed for egg color. My flock is just my family. I have a few blue laying Ee's 1 green laying EE , 1blue isbar and one I've olive egger among other breeds like BR Aussie..... If I want a dark green egg should I breed him with my blue Isbar, OE, or EE I'm trying to go for the darkest green. Or darkest brown. He did hatch out of a #4 coloring . Thanks for any tips! I may just try one of each see what I get. If anyone has any experience with crossing the breeds and what they ended up with.

Hi Chickengr I like your cockerel,long back and well placed tail , feathered shanks.not sure about the colour yet still need time .nice hen too a litle bent comb but nicely serrated ,nice back too.nice egg she layed. how old is she? can you take a few extra shot of your hen so we can evaluate her type better. Thanks

thank you. my pullet is about 7-8 months old. I will take some pics tomorrow if she lets me, lol. she had a big scab from pox at he back of her comb. I don't know if it will go up a bit when she gets 100% better.

my today's egg is no 5, I would say! but my camera's flash will lighten it, I didn't bother to try.

the white on her comb is from fowl pox, she has just got out of it. she has no white feathers but she had feed on her, lol. and no impacted or sour crop, this is our evening crop:

tilted tail on one side and positioned a little high.
not enough coppers on the hackel.
need some mass on here back.

Over all she s a breeder could be mated to well marked rooster ( copper ear down and in the chest -10% ) with a nice tail.

she look like my hen Shakeera .one with a white tag and bent comb.

thank you! this is more than I expected from her

her comb looked better before she got a huge scab from dry pox. but I am happy she is alive. I hope my cockerel will be a good match. at the moment I have 6 marans eggs under a broody. will see if she hatches any.
