Black Copper Marans discussion thread

how many eggs per week do your marans lay?

my pullet lays 5-6 which I have never expected. her comb is very floppy and I have noticed that all of my girls with floppy combs are good layers, even the mutts.

We have 7 hens and always have 5 eggs a day. So they lay pretty well, I wasn't expecting so many! And very consistent roo, once they started they haven't missed, one of my bielefelder hens would lay and then skip a few days and lay again.

FeelsRighyFarm gorgeous eggs they are dark you must be very proud of your hens.
keep doing a good work

Thank you! I can't take any credit, they are doing it all and it's luck at this point, we will see where I'm at in a few years :-)

Hey everyone!

I absolutely love Black Copper Marans and am hoping to add some to my coop including having a BCM rooster. I live in Alberta Canada and was wondering if anyone would know of a breeder in Alberta or a breeder in Canada that ships BCMs preferably hatching eggs as we prefer to incubate and hatch them ourselves. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

-Thanks as always

I was just looking for some input on my cockerels coloring. He's 22 weeks and straying to do his thing. Super sweet! Comes when I call him. Let's me pick him up freely and walk around . Still eats out of my hand. I've had a few Roos before never one this sweet! Here's some pictures if you need better ones let me know. Thank you in advance!!!

i like him so much I'm not concerned just curious. I'm really looking for pet quality and he's met that standard for sure!

gorgeous!

mine is a sweet pet too. I cannot imagine bcm roos might be aggressive!

I've had both sweet and aggressive. The one I have now is very sweet but my flock has rejected him so I separated him and hatched some eggs. I'll probably keep one of his sons but he'll be looking for a new home. My flock will readily accept young birds in with no issues do that's the route I have to take.
