Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Not at all. I bought these off of craigslist before I found this thread and am all guess work. I thank you for the critique and will respect any advice in the future. Will want to wait until next year for breeding. I love this game.

Not at all. I got them off of craigs list and did not have clue, until I found this forum. I am so humble and greatfull for your knowledge

The chunky hen is a sister. The other two hens are not related. I'm going to wait for eggs on these three hens before I go. Waiting for a reply from Brian. Thank you Don

Single mate the Black female with the Cockerel and mark all the chicks. There is a Marking chart in my front page with all the possible markings. Feel free to make a copy for future reference.

Unfortunately millions and millions of male chicks die every day.

I know. It's enough to break a person's heart.. :( my favorite rooster is a young black copper maran. He just has the best personality. He isnt full grown yet. He has these huge feet he is trying to grow into. It makes him look so funny when he walks lol. He loves being held like a big baby. He is the reason I've fallen for the marans. I've never owned a chicken I love better. :)

Sometimes the Marans that are not close to the SOP will lay darker eggs than the Marans that are excellent quality, even the Mossy colored BC Marans will sometime lay a darker egg. If you want the Darker colored eggs try and keep just one line of Marans as everytime you bring in a new line and mix with what you already have the color will fade.

Honestly I just want eggs for eating, I like watching my pretty birds peck around, I have black hens and a blue male, I am a non-breeder enthusiast. When my hens get too old to lay anymore they get culled for the crockpot.
