Only chick with brown spot above eye lid
Mossy tendancy in wings
yellowish underside
very dark horn
small comb
long wings with white primarys in full view
gray shanks and pink toes
little tail
white in wing bow
white under eyes and at corner of eyes
EXTREMELY light leg feathering

This might be the offspring from a blue copper hen x black copper roo. . . I had one chick from this mating that hatched blackish instead of blueish. This might be the little one in question.

HI Geebs and Everyone '

', Just found this thread today, and am thrilled! Very glad that this is a place where one can get detailed evaluations. I will be sending pictures when I figure out how to! Have three hens and six roos at the moment. What a lovely gentle breed... '

So, are the brown stripes in the wings indicative of the mossiness ?

None of the mom's had brown stripes in their wings when they were chicks. I am surprised to see the brown stripes in the wings. I don't remember anyone ever posting pics of chicks with striped wings.

What are your thoughts on this trait?

Lisa~ I know I'm not geebs but the birds with the mossy or striping as you call it on the wings, I have seen this grow out and disappear on the BCM's that I have from GFF, I didn't think that it would, but it is completely gone on each one that showed it and there were about 4 of them that did, 2 of them were roos, 2 of them were pullets, the stippling on them was not in stripe form but more random spots on the wing feathers and a couple on the back, anyway, these pullets grew out to be the 2 with the darkest eyes, one is almost completely black and the other IMO is very near perfect with the exception of her eyes, both lay the darkest eggs out there.

BTW: I was going to ask if one of those little chickies could be a blue.

In had 3 females with a few males in a brooder a while back and the females did have longer tails. I can't remember how early it showed up ... maybe at one week and then the female tales continued to be longer clear up past the time that they you could verify sex by comb growth. I remember this because I didn't have to mark them in any way to tell them apart. I thought I was the founder of some great secret. ;-) However, I have hatched our batches since that don't show this difference which made me wonder why that first group was so easy to figure out so early. In later batches, I kept looking at the tails thinking that I would be able to tell the boys from the girls and I couldn't. This bugs me. I would prefer a little consistency.

I can't wait to try these new (for me) methods of sexing early. I have a batch in the incubator due to come out on the 19th. I will check them out as soon as possible.

Oh, Casey76, Thank You So Much for posting the photos, even the little judging card. That was a treat.
