Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Even when the chicks start to resemble a velociraptor that has had honey drizzled over it, then dipped in feathers? My poor chick is very unfortunate looking now at 4 weeks. He/she has the beginnings of copper on the back of the neck though, which has me tickled. My existing BCM is all black with no sign of copper at all, so I'm thrilled to have one at least somewhat resemble the standard.

If you think that's bad, try raising turkey babies- they have the walk down and everything!

My peace has officially ended.

I think I'm about to have eggs. Two of my girls, the blue and one BCM have pink faces and visible cloacas.

That's exciting that you're about to have eggs!

Is 17 weeks really late to start crowing? I had two white leghorn rooster chicks last spring, and it seems like they were crowing by the time they were 8-10 weeks old.

You also hold the record for most cockrels in a single hatch don't you? Lol!

Hmm, so maybe I'll know one way or the other fairly soon on my BCM. Today I think it's a cockerel.
