Hi Jan, in the SOP Glossary of technical terms : "Slate, a shade of Gray having a bluish cast sometimes approaching black, sometimes of lighter shades." The lighter slate would be borderline white with the pink between the scales. Don

that bird has slate legs VC.... They do not look BLUE like the other white bird's leg... at least not on my monitor...

Snowbird: on your monitor they look the same??? You could pull up a side by side for blue marans pullets and get the same color.....

Jan, that is just the official APA SOP definition for slate. I have so many other faults to worry about in my Marans that I have not culled for anything except the one's with white legs. I have some very weird things showing up with the new hatches. From necessity I used males and females for the first hatches that were heavily related. Will give you some details in a few days,

I used the one male that is completely from a different breeder and it seems to be a good mating only time will tell. Don

Jan, this male looks to have light slate and the other looks to have blue slate and the blue slate would be acceptable with APA. The dark slate on the white would be a little much by Marans SOP. This would of been the original proposed standard type color. Don

Muddy water as usual.... So now there will be an ongoing argument over blue/verses gray instead of black versus... slate.. Cool... UNCLE>>> I AM OUT. I gave my IMHO answer... just let me be... k?
