DANG! I was ready to load them up too!

I keep telling myself I have lots of good pullet karma coming to me. My last few hatches have been 4 M/0 F and 6 M/3 F. I did get 50:50 on my last BCM hatch, though. Now I have a brooder full of 3 week old BCM cockerels with 2 possible pullets scattered in. I have one chick on the fence after a long battle with Cocci who, of course, is a pullet. Uggh.

Does anyone else get more cockels in early spring and more pullets in the summer/late spring.... I find that to be the case for me... Just curios if anyone else has the same thing...???? Avid roo collectors!!! keep up the vigil!!! RAH!!!

Kearas, mine, or a third breeder's eggs.

That hatch was really rocking and I
would of been able to tell if my other girls were doing a better job of producing females

I've got another half dozen of those two other hens set again . . . I can't wait to see if
I finally get some pullets. So far this year, I have hatched 5 marans pullets and 18 marans cockerels.
That is about a 75% hatch rate for marans males

My white Marans are genetically similar, but they have the ID/ID that gives them the pinkish white shanks with just a trace of very pale gray in the "knees".

The ER based BC have the dermal inhibitors, which makes for the more patchy, variable pigmentation, but in my BC roos, the gray color with the pink around it has a bluish tint.


I have not seen a strong correlation between correct shanks and proper color balance, but I have 3 more roos maturing so we'll see how it looks on them.

Yes, I just hatched a huge batch of cockerels in March.

Maybe I'll wait till late summer to start hatching the Bresse... I already got two good roos.

Shelly was the last chick to hatch out of that batch of eggs and was a little sticky towards the end just before hatching with about 1/2 of the shell zipped...so I went in after little Shelly which I normally do not do, but very glad I did because Shelly is going to have a great home with her/his new chickie mamma and daddy. Sweet Batty..Thank you for posting them! So excited for you.

Have you tried putting minced garlic in their drinking water? It's a fabulous natural anti-bacterial agent.

No, I haven't tried that. How much do I put in per gallon? Right now I'm using Corid and a vitamin/electrolyte supplement.
