Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Well it is Sunday and I am sure it isnt the first load of birds they have seen... Who knows, by now they may just be passed out... and very quiet... It is a juvenile box with ventilation. I only hope they are delayed and that they arrive first thing in the morning... My post office here is watching...I will know the minute they hit PDX. I love my postmasters here... THey are super cool about it... I have seen the way they handle birds when no one is looking.. ( a bunch of old softies

They are a bunch of softies aren't they.....when I picked up some Delaware chicks from the PO a couple weeks ago......I saw one of the post workers standing over the box of chirpiness saying....."ahhhhh sweet little chickies!" Ohhh, heck we're all just a bunch of big softies.

geebs, ask the shipper to do an online search to see where they are or give you the number and it will show where they are . Just go to usps.com and put the numbers in the page to do a search.

I have done all that... thanks....

They didn't scan it.. That is why it is lost.

They only have record of it's being recieved. I have contacted every PO along the shipping route. I will have to take a run at it again on Monday... Thanks so much though!!!!

Really makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes when an overnight live animal package somehow goes missing! Still keeping my fingers crossed and sending posative vibes!

Hi, I have a Marans question that I cannot find an answer to on old threads. I bought Black Copper Marans eggs on Ebay and the only egg that hatched was a chick that was more of a silver/gray color. Its my avatar, actually. When I posted a question about this initially I was told it was a blue splash. I waited for his spots to come in, but instead he has turned a brillant white. He is 8 weeks old, very pretty, but absolutely pure white.
How did this happen? I have read wheaten is recessive, but white? Does this mean the seller had some other colors in with the BCMs?

Isn't white an unusual color? What if I breed him with my BCMs (I went ahead and bought day old BCM chicks from a good seller) what color might they be? I also have Blue Marans, what if I breed him with those, what colors might I get?

*By the way, when I told the seller I had only managed to hatch one egg, and the chick was a color other than black she ignored that part and only addressed what I must have done wrong to have such a poor hatch*

Thanks in advance!

I think you have a true sport. Did you save the egg? What color was it?? I hope it is a hen... Stranger things have happened.... Look at the skin color and tell us what it is... More information on the little fella.. and lots more pictures please. It is possible that it is a cross or that it is a white.... Nature can be strange.. I don't know enough about the genetics to be able to give you an real answer but it sounds like a white... and also a keeper..

I'm seriously a novice but I wonder if it could be from a lavender split project? It seems like it would have a little more of the sporadic blue feathering. It's pretty whatever it is.
