I doubt she will lay... Chickens need to see light... that is what turns their internal clocks on and off... It could be genetic, I just don't know... so sorry... I had a blind rooster and he was infertile....and he never crowed... made a great pet for an in towner who just wanted the colors of a roo.. He had the same strange posture...


Eyeworm, weeping a white spot.... swelling and yes it can be passed on... the vector is cockroaches..

That stinks I was really hoping to use her. As the cockerel has to much color and she doesn't have any coming in. So I was hoping they would balance each other out. She doesn't have any weeping a white spot or any swelling.

Then it is likely not eyeworm.... genetic defect...I wouldn't use her as a breeder... She likely won't be a lifer around the joint.. just a feed bill and eye candy.

My brahma Pickles, lays an egg just about everyday. I don't know if she is totally blind or not...maybe she can see some light.
She does know when I'm coming even if I don't say anything and can differentiate me from others but she may just be relying on her hearing and can hear the difference in how I walk, breathe or whatever. I notice, she does rely on her hearing quite alot. I went out and checked her eyes after reading about eyeworm GROSS lol. Her eyes look totally normal thank goodness.

FLgardengirl, there is a community for turkeys here and you can post photos over there for identification. I"m not real experienced at identifying the different breeds as poult age so doubt if I can help you but I know folks at the turkey community will be able to!! good luck!

Wow, what a gross sound problem, eye worms! From cockroaches? Is that from eating them or laying around where they exist? Don't chickens basically eat bugs like that? I hate cockroaches and can't figure how people keep them (the big species, Madagascar) for pets!! UGH!

Lol, yep, just one more reason to hate roaches! I can't stand those big palmetto bugs or water/sewer roaches whatever you call them that FLY!
We have them here in FL and when I take my evening walk down the street in the summer, when the rains come they hang out around the street drains under the street lights. I have to run by those lol. They totally freak me out!

Okay so I was able to get a video. It's not the Best but is some what shows that she can't see to well. When she finds the food if I move my hand she can't follow.

I don't believe it is the sunlight as much as the natural circadian rhythm of a bird that dictates when they lay. I would be curious enough to feed her to see. But than that is me.

My friend has a one eye hen that makes the best broody. . . . She might only have one eye - - - BUT I wouldn't try to get thru her to the babies
