Hey, folks! This is my first time posting here, but I've been lurking the thread for a while

I just wanted to post a few pics of my BCM roo and see what people think of him. I think he's beautiful, but I want to know if there's a chance of showing him next year.

(Sorry for low picture quality on this one... He didn't want to stand still XD)

I think he is too young which makes it hard to tell how he will turn out for showing. He has about the heaviest feathered legs I've seen on a BCM. It looks like he has feathering on his middle toe, too. That is a fault or a DQ... I'm not sure which. Because of that I don't think I would consider showing or breeding him.

Yellow on shanks or toes. White ear lobes. Pearl or black eyes. Absence of feathers on shanks. (See General Disqualifications and Cutting for Defects.)

Can someone CHECK and SEE if MIDDLE TOE FEATHING is a DQ or just a fault. If it is a fault only, I would like to know how much it is worth.....

This is another example of what happens when someone sells these mixed Marans to people that do not know what they should look like. I think the people that sell egg from mixed breeds like this should be outed so everyone knows who they are. I see more and more of the Mixed breeds showing up on BYC with Vulture Hocks and the owner does not have a clue what they really have. We should all be honest with our fellow man when they are spending their hard earned money.

Yikes. I'm sorry to say, that boy looks half Cochin to me.

Don and I disagree on this point, though; I feel that the buyer has EQUAL if not MORE responsibility to ask questions & do their research before buying. If you're looking for a specimen that's bred to the SOP, this boy is probably as far from it as you can get - again, I'm very sorry to say that, but it is what it is. The GOOD thing is that you've come to the right place to learn, if that's what you're after! There are many folks on this thread who can give you helpful feedback and advice - just ask!

These are my first FBCMs and I was wondering how they look. They were hatched Mid April.

This is my boy Angus (aka Gus)...

He was taking a nap here & I disturbed him.

The 3 girls ~ Blossom, Clover & Daisy. I think they may be a little lacking in copper. They are not yet laying ~

sgtmom - that cockerel has a HUGE side sprig and should not be used for breeding. His eyes are a bit light for my taste, and his shank feathering is a bit too sparse. He has good qualities, but honestly, due to the sprig he really should be culled.

Your gals are overmelanised...(too dark) - I like the conformation of the gal in the last pic, and that picture is a perfect example of a picture that we can really see good details in. It's always best to take pics from the bird's level so you can see the outline. She appears to have good type, but she looks a might light, though she should fill out. ALL MY amateur opinion, however!!
