Just had a thought Arielle, you should see if Debbi would be willing to post a pic of her two boys, they are in the mahogany range and would give you a good visual example. I'm not finding anything in my marans photo folder yet.

I'm not sure, Its hard for me to tell with the lighting on him. The wing bow often will be a bit darker on lots of the cockerels I've seen. I try to select mine for the best balance of tone and coverage, as I find it gives me more even resultsIs my roo in my avatar on his wing bow? if so I can get a pic closer of his wing bow. Quote: So mahogany is much darker. Glad I asked, because I was thinking this was mahogany.
Quote: Donna, I love your avatar-- reminds me of my favorite painters, the old Dutch style. Sorry I can't really see his coloring; nothing new, I cna't see most of the details that all the eye-spies can see on the marans thread either! LOL THank you for trying to help.
PS Eggs due to hatch the next few days.

I believe black breasted red is more wheaten as they have the wing triangle. The equivalent for the black coppers I think is brown redThis is what I have from the Marans Club.... is this right? I thought we didn't want any markings on the breast?
Cock : Black-breasted red, with parsimonious red spotting on the breast. Having a black wing triangle. The red markings are not to be yellow or mahogany. Copper colored lancets in the neck hackle & the back. Deep red shoulders.
