Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I know you've been culling heavily & working really diligently, so I have absolutely NO doubt that you'll get to where you want to be eventually! Can't wait to see more pics!

Please consider giving me a critique........Here are some more pictures of the roo I am working with for this coming breeding season. I actually saw him, for the first time, cover a hen. So now I am going to start looking for eggs for a late fall winter hatch!

Thank you for the drawings! Fortunately, I *seem* to have more hens with this outline, than not! I haven't had much luck on roosters but did acquire two hopefuls who will be stepping stones as well as one surprisingly promise in the grow out pen.

Wow. that is one nice roo! Eventually, you'll want the rear of his comb to lay closer to his skull but that will come with time. So much to like about this boy! Lovely depth and breadth. Typey profile. Quality coloring. Super tail set! I drool over that tail. Just the right amount of feathering on feet and shanks. Nice body angles in profie. The body sits well on the legs.
Handsome boy!

I am new to Marans and to breeding chickens to the SOP so I was also waiting for someone to comment on this guy! I thought he looked really nice, but wasn't sure. I have eggs in the 'bator and fingers crossed for my first BCM and am really trying to learn what they should look like and what should be culled out, so I know what to look for when they grow up. (yep, counting my chicks before they hatch!)
