We need a better pic! I seriously doubt the toenails are actually fused....

the toe nails if together can be salvaged which just be trimmed and if the toes are crooked then it can be broken and reset and it will heal right one of my babies had this done not the webbing but crooked toes

It is our responsibilty to clean up this type of thing, cull that bird. Do not breed it in any case. This breed has a myriad of issues and unless we begin to cull instead of breeding everythign that lays a semi dark egg we will continue to hava a breed that is a mess.

I am on my third bunch to find a roo that I think is breedable.

oh honey I am so sorry, I sold her these birds, I got them from a breeder and did tell her about the webbing, since she was not breeding (only having chickens for eggs and no roo) and the chick seemed fine I charged very little (in comparison to what I paid) and thought that although it was webbed that it would have a good life. I guess I was wrong. I would repolace the bird but dont have any to do so since 1/2 had the webbing and I only kept a few.

web-footed, fused toenailed one. I'm just trying to get her help if it is possible, to make her life here on earth a little better!

If you love it, you don't have to cull it. Fix it and it will still lay you good eating eggs and be a great pet. There are still plenty of good BCM breeders. Don't let anyone discourage you from breeding if you chose that...although don't breed the web footed one

Every breed has 'those' folks who just want to make a quick buck instead of caring about keeping birds true to the breed....it is so not limited to the marans. They are an excellent breed, lay the best darkest richest eggs, and they will bring you in some $$ on top of that. I love them. And people shouldn't let a few bad apples give the breed AND breeders a bad rap... JMO



I see you are taking yours to the vet. It can be done without one though. We do our own vetting for all of our animals, unless it requires something major...I would snip the toes apart, clean, disinfect, wrap up in a splint, and most likely it would come out OK.

I have a BR hen that has crooked toes. She wobbles and has trouble balancing at times. She never roosts, just lives on the ground but she is fine, healthy, and lays good eggs. We eat them every day.
