I found this on Softbillsforsale.com.... not sure how old it is :

"Name: african black crake male
Description: Have a male african black crake available. Would like to see him go to a breeder with other crakes cause they have become extremly rare in private collections, but its not a must. He is a 08 or hatch bird. If you have any questions feel free to ask [email protected]"

Your boss wouldn't happen to be Mike?

Crakes can sometimes been quite mean to other birds, will eat the eggs & offspring right of nests.

Yes, I work for mike on weekends sometimes.

The blake crake seems to be rather friendly and will walk right up to me and peck at feed in my hand.

I guess the price for a pair is rather expensive for as small of a birdthat it is ranging from 500-600?

Tell him I said hi and will actually try to make to one of the fairs in 2012 (been under a rock for the last few years). Crakes can be pretty tame towards people, as are lot of rail-like birds, but nasty towards other birds. I've seen Black Crakes take on Hammerkop, Guineafowl, & other larger birds in a mixed aviary. Just keep an eye on them if they are housed with other birds and yes, they are quite expensive (way outta my price range), but cool birds. Rails and other waders are more commonly kept in European aviaries (check out the Aviornis website), just never been very popular in the US outside of zoos.
