1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) Mainly our roosters but hens developing black on crowns. Think this may be them sleeping on top of one another and pooping and then they pick it off of each other. Not frostbite because began during warmer months. Not sure how to help them or if this is more serious or how to fix how they like to sleep.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. They don’t seem in pain but when they pick at one another it bleeds and scabs and the black gets worse.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Since warmer months this year. The flock will be a year old next month.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? Yes. Roosters first but now some hens.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. Bleeding from picking at each other - mainly the hens picking at the roosters.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. All I can think is the sleeping situation? But new to chickens - this is my first flock.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Yes otherwise healthy.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Yes otherwise healthy.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? Peroxide when bleeding to disinfect.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Home treatment.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. Need to figure out how to post a picture but do have them.

Here is a pic of one of our roosters, Ben.

I would start with an anti-fungal cream or spray (miconazole or clotrimazole) and see if it helps at all. I would also check the coop for mold/moisture either in the bedding or in general on the walls/etc.

Its fowlpox. Hopefully it is the dry not wet. It apparently starts from a mosquito bite. It can live in the mosquito for 8 weeks. There is no treatment due to its a virus but there is a vaccine for it. If you have a lot of loose bedding with their dander clean it out. If only one or two chickens I would isolate them from the flock. You can buy vitamin oil and add to the water and it will help them recover faster.
