We have six 12 week old BEIs and we still cant figure out who is male/female. I've read that the laying females can get white spots on their chest, and one actually has a dot on her chest. But the rest are all completely black. So if there was a drake or two in this flock, when would their sex feathers develop? None have that curly tail, so can they be all girls?? Or is it still too early to tell?

Thanks!

It's too early to tell, the drake feather hasn't developed yet. You can tell by their quacks. If it's a loud quack it's a girl. It's a boy if it's just a raspy kind of whisper.

I don't know when the males get the curly tail but they do get it. Mine were not new born when I got them. Wish I could be more help. Maybe someone who has more experience can help.

If they were not able to be vent sexed, your next way would be voice sexed. Like the Calls, the female BEI's are loud. Also, on the white feathering............all the BEI ducks (females) eventually show white feathering but you should not be showing this early. Drakes with white feathering should be avoided in your breeding stock.
