I ordered about 18 chicks four weeks ago. They are staying with a friend until I get my coop, and run fininshed.

The last few days I have been attacked by black flies! Their bite is horrible, and I have swollen up like crazy.

I got on the net to reasearch what might repell them as the "Off" spray doesnt seem to bother them at all.
I read that they can attually kill poultry!

Anyone know anything about this? Im really concerned about bringing them hear now.

You got any stagnate water sources around. Ponds, streams, old tires, etc....? Black flies just love those areas for breeding. Need some mosquitoe dunks if you find the source of water. They kill black fly larva as well.

Spread DE in the coup to keep down the dampness & breed of more flies.

They hate Tea Tree Oil. Put it on your exposed skin. They will fly around you but they won't land and bite. We get the flys real bad here too. We tried the fabric softener sheet thing but did not work. The Skin So Soft from Avon is not too bad but we find the Tea Tree Oil works the best.
