I got 3 copper marans from Rural King for .99¢ each I initially bought 34 (all for 99¢ each) so ended up paying around $35.00 so with that if I had ordered them from Murray McMurray Hatchery then the money I spent on 34 chicks I could have used to order only 3 Black French Copper Marans at $10.99 each. (1 dollar more at Meyers)

So my question is why are they expensive??
Are they rare?

I know Murray just started carrying them but still!!!

FBCM aren't necessarily a 'rare' breed these days but if you want higher quality in your birds or in your eggs you will want to buy from a breeder.
Are your chicks legs feathered? Pics?

Most people seek to breed to the SOP (standard of perfection) for the bird itself or they breed for egg color which goes up to a 9, very dark and rare. They can fetch a pretty penny for the right bird/egg and to the Marans fans the money spent can be worth every penny.
