Black Jersey Giants???

How lucky you are. I have been searching for some and no one seems to have any. I think my only option will be to eventually order from a hatchery next spring or see if my feed store can order some just for me. He gets the same kinds every year, RIR, Barred Rocks, Sexlinks, that's it. I asked him why he does not vary and he said those are what sell around here and he usually gets rid of them very fast. Maybe I can talk him into changing his variable next year, I am sure there are many people who would buy other breeds. Am I right?????

I ordered mine form mypetchicken and they just came last Tues. They are too cute and seem to be very healthy. I ordered 6. Good luck finding some.

I got three, they're 2 weeks old, I got chicks from Meyer Hatchery. At least the chicks had their beaks. I love them, they argue about who gets to jump on me first. Karen

We have a total of 12 Jersey Giants they started to lay at 5 months and so far they are going strong in that department! Some refer to Jersey Giants as a rare breed because of size

Jersey Giants now days are for people in my opinion that love an impressive bird without much concern of how much the feed vs. egg production rate is. If egg production is a plus another breed should be considered as Jersey Giants are in need of extra food intake to keep up with their massive and beautiful bodies. The black Jersey giant is about 20% larger than the White Jersey Giant and it takes more time for the White Jersey Giant to develop. We live in Texas and our Jersey Giants managed the Texas heat with no problems at all but we know this breed should be first pick if you live in the northern part of the states as they are design for cold temperatures.
As far as personality the Jersey Giant could be one of the most friendly and docile in your chicken coop

I don't know about quiet...as every time my girls see me they love to start talking and talking to me with heavy voices

this is truly a lovely breed with a great history and wonderful candor!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the fancy and proud coop owner

Here is a picture of one of my girls they were born April 21 2007 and at just 5 months of age they out game your average hen.

I have 5 JGs (3 blue hens, 1 splash hen, 1 black roo)--I love the breed. Mine came from Maria, as well. The roosters are impressive looking and literally traffic stopping! It's funny to see the stunned looks on people's faces when they see my roo for the first time.

His crow is as subtle as a foghorn--thank goodness my neighbors don't complain.

My hens have been broody off and on all summer, does anybody else have that "problem" with their JGs?

I totally recommend the breed.
