Black Marans Bantam Breeders needed for ABA/APA recognization

Here is a picture of my black's first three eggs. They are getting darker with each one laid.

Phil Harriman has some of the best Black Langshan bantams around. He is in the Decatur Texas area.

You really do not want exhibition Black Langshan bantams to start breeding Black Marans bantams.

A lower tail set and light eyes would be prefered.

Something not so up on their legs either.

Culls from a Black Langshan bantam breeder is what you should be looking at getting. mho

Serious culls. Marans should have a much more prominent breast, wider body, stronger legs, and a smaller tail with less pronounced sickles. (besides the others things mentioned)

Black bantam marans already exist, why the out breeding?? At this point I would think you would want to work with what is already available in bantam marans and cull hard within them.

All I have found is way too large and slab sided not much of a dual purpose bantam at all.

Also most are clean legged and the MCCUSA's standard and the APA's standard calls for feathered shanks.

Everything I have seen in Marans bantams appears to call for an outcross. mho

I actually have two black pullets along with a cuckoo cockerel and pullet. One of my black pullets started laying this past week and surprisingly it is a decent brown egg.
