Black Mouth Cur dogs; How are they with chickens?

I think I'm finally getting my head back on straight. Laynadon, I wanted to tell you a little more about my encounter with Coryza. I now have a closed flock of the original chicks. I gave most of them numerous daily shots of Tylan (antibiotic) to help them get over the symptoms, but yes, they will always be carriers. That's why I had a dog kennel in the house for the new chicks. I couldn't put the newbies in with the sickies, although none of the sickies have outward symptoms. I have added an ICU unit to the chicken coop, but it isn't done yet either. Sun is in the forecast for tomorrow, so I plan to make great progress. Sweet Maggie looks like she could have some Chow in her with the black spots on her tongue. She looks very sweet. From the top, Maggie looks like a long haired doxie I had a number of years ago. (He would sit funny sometime too....especially when he wanted to be in a spot where there wasn't enough room for his Looooong body.

Thanks for the kind words Oncearoundtheblock. I wish things would have turned out differently. I guess if I'm going to have lots of chickens, I'd better develop thicker skin....but that's easier to say than to do I'm afraid.........

Below is day one making my pallet coop.

Below is the pallet coop on day two

I'm building a slant roof so that should be fairly easy....Then I just have to add siding and fencing around the bottom, and the chicks can move in. I can build additions on the yard after I get the chicks settled in their new digs.

just wanted to say that black spots on the tongue have nothing to do with having chow blood. All dog breeds can have black spots on the tongue.

LanyaDon95 I believe your red dog may be a Husky X Golden Retrever. Look up both dogs and see if you don't spot the same "look" in your pup.

Golden retriever I definitely see. I don't think he has Husky in him. I suppose it's possible, but they have more pointed features than Hershey does.

one other dog that might be the mix is a German Shepard...both a Siberian Husky and a German Shepard put that pretty mask on a crosses head.(the little v shaped forehead marking) I went with Husky because of the spotted tongue...but there are others that also have that trait.

a spotted tongue isn't a trait of any breed, it can be found on any dog. He doesn't have a mask and I don't see anything in his features that say husky or GSD. I'd say that he is just old fashioned "All American Dog" When it comes to living with chickens, the individual dog is much more important than the breed anyway :)

My mistake and I am sorry if I have offended you. I can only go by the picture that was shown . I tried to clear up my poor choice of words by saying markings on forehead....similar to these. It really doesn't matter, as long as LaynaDon95 happy with her pup and he is trustworthy around her pets. Again as I stated there are other breeds of dogs that have spots on tongues....by trait I simply meant
a distinquishing mark or characteristic......like hair color, feather color, nature.
