Black oil sunflower seed- How to get them to eat it?

Have you tried sprouting it? Put the seeds in a container with water for an hour or two then put the seeds in a strainer, rinse 2-3 times a day(keep the strainer in the sink). I use the strainer as the seeds don't go bad as easy and it's easier to rinse them.

Mine love them, amd they love them after they have been soaking too. I give both safflower and black sunflower. I was giving the striped sunflower too, but for some reason they have a shortage in the area.just keep trying they will eventually start and once they do they will all go for the sunflower seeds first!

Plant them somewhere near your chickens, let them grow and then when the heads start to droop sit back and enjoy the chicken hopping entertainment! My birds didn't fancy the seeds from a paper bag, but when they could peck and pull them from the sunflower head they went nusto for them!

You get beautiful flowers all summer long and your chickens get a fun game at the end of the season. It's a win-win.

I had to laugh when I read the title of this thread because mine poke eyes and pull feathers to get BOSS-next to grapes and peaches, it's their favorite.
