Black oiled sunflower seeds?

Do black oiled sunflower seeds need to be shelled for the chickens, or can they deal with them in their shells? I think my girls need some protein so I thought I'd get them some.

I mix mine in with the scratch grains. they seem to prefer the corn, but once they get the sunflower seeds they will eat those too.

With the oily shell is best for hens. It keeps their reproductive tract lubed, so to speak. Great treat!
