black on comb

I am hoping this is not a desease but, I have RIR's one of my hens comb has black on it. looks like mold or something can anyone help me with a diognosis and cure ?

Hard to say without a picture. Often, black spots on the comb are from dried blood, either from being pecked or from insect bites. Has it been there long? Do you see some smaller spots that seem to come and go?

I also have RIR's and both of mine have something similar - just appeared recently and they both seem to have it. They're around 5 months old and the marks almost look like they coordinate with the coloring on their beaks. Maybe it's normal. Maybe they're just dirty. Hopefully someone else has seen this and knows what it is.

If I can get my girls to cooperate, I'll try to post a picture.
