Does anyone have a clue why our chickens combs have black on them !!
What is it what can we do ? Eating fine and drinking they actually just started laying eggs… It is pretty hot here so we have noticed their mouths have been open kind of like a panting … The only thing that has happened is we did lose a rooster about three weeks ago who was panting a lot wouldn't come off of the roost .. no sign of black on him tho...and we thought maybe he either had got in a fight with another rooster or possibly fell and broke his neck because he did have. Injuries to a wing ...?? Any ideas ???

Rooster's combs will turn blue and purple when they get excited. It can also have to do with circulatory and pulmonary issues, but if your chickens are otherwise healthy, it's probably just fluctuations in blood pressure.

Your mama's comb may be purple from bruising or from the same thing affecting the roosters. If a rooster, when treading, tries to grab the feather at the back of her head and misses, he may grab her poor, little comb.

A few of my chickens have this, too, and it's generally nothing to worry about.

If you see anyone looking lethargic or going off food and water, I'd worry then. :)
