My 4 year old silkie rooster's comb has become very big and swollen looking over a week or so. He had a fight through the fence with another rooster but I didn't notice any damage to his head. Is it normal for the comb to grow very quickly or do you think this is swollen and an infection of some sort. He didn't want to come out of the house today which is not normal behaviour for him. Mind you it has been very hot and humid, and we have put a cooling system in the house, so he may just be keeping cool. But he's normally always out with his ladies.

It does appear that his comb may have been injured and become inflamed. I'd be tempted to apply some cortisone cream to his comb and monitor.

Some puffiness and swelling now coming out around the comb and near his eye. He's still eating but was shaking his head a lot, and still not going out with his girls, so I took him to the vet this morning. It is an infection alright. He's now on antibiotics in his water for a week. Hopefully that will help him come right.
