Hi,
My parakeet got his foot tangled in his knitted cozy. I cut him free right away but didn’t see there was a small string wrapped tightly around his toe until today. Unfortunately I cut him free several weeks ago. His toe is now black and probably lost circulation long ago. I read about amputating and cauterizing chicken toes on this forum so thought I’d get some thoughts. The post about the chicken briefly mentioned wrapping a rubber band tightly around the chicken toe and it would fall off as an alternative to cutting it off. If this is the case then his toe should fall off any day now. My concern is that it will go sepsis and kill him. Should I leave it alone and hope it falls off and he’s fine, or should I attempt to amputate and cauterize his toe. He seems totally healthy and happy otherwise. That’s why I didn’t notice it for song long (also because he often stands on one foot hiding the other entirely). The string is still wrapped around it. I was worried cutting the string off would just make matters worse.

The string is teal. The entire toe is puffed up a little but just the tip lost circulation.
