Black Patches Over Rooster's Eyes

usually just my roosters get frostbite, my hens all have small combs, but the only places I've seen frostbite on my roos has been their combs. It turns blk last right before starting to fall off. I have seen roos with it on their wattles too. but none on the areas where the posters roo is showing the blk, which makes me think of scratching and drawing some blood.

Okay, I'm going to add one more picture here and see if I have this right... I think the majority here are saying that the black marks on the edges of his comb are frostbite and the larger black marks (closer to his eyes) are dried blood (from an injury, pest, etc.). I've marked what I'm talking about on the pic below. Does this sound right?
Also, maybe they don't do it often but I don't remember ever seeing him scratch at his face with his foot...

The one you have marked as frost bite could be but mine get it on the tips at the top of the comb. don't think I've seen it that far down. and only you can say what the other one is for sure buy watching him to see if he's scratching himself. or by also checking him and the others for lice/mites. Now another question thrown in, I have seen my hens peck at my roos face, and he let them they did get his wattles pretty bloody, don't have a clue what was up with that. could his girls have done this too him? what ever it is it looks very minor.

Very glad to hear it looks minor, I'm so new to this I can't tell what is or isn't. The hens don't pick at him. He is the boss but not mean. He loves to feed them (get food and then cluck until they come and take it). They actually all get along well together.

This is him trying to help out with the egg laying... ;-)

He is very handsome boy. and I didn't mean to imply that the girls might have been pecking him out of meaness, I think my girls did it out of affection, I even saw him lean into one so she could peck him... their so silly. Isn't it cute the way the roo will go get into the nest box with the hen and show her what to do.. they are such neat critters. oh I forgot to say I went to your page but I never did see the cat..
