Black Star hens are wonderful layers of large brown eggs. Black Stars are easy to raise and have a good feed conversion ratio. At maturity, Black Stars weigh a little over 5 lbs. The females are black with gold hackle and breast feathers, and they are egg laying machines. The males are black with white barring. The Black has mixed colors at the tips of the black feathers or other variations. The color can be in brown texture. My Black Star is larger than the same age chicks. They seem to be very dominate and a leader as well. Mine seems faster than the others as far as foraging bugs and such.
