Purchased on May 21, the seller told me that this chicken was a 4 or 5 week old Black Sex-link hen. I'm thinking no, but really would appreciate the opinion of experience. This is my first foray into the world of chickens and I'm learning! Thank you!

Hens :) male BSL have white spots on their heads. Females are red on the neck and black on the backs like that

I'm pretty sure thats a cockerel.

Did you click on the bottom picture? It seems that's about as close as I can get, but when I click on that one, it's pretty large on my computer screen.

This one is unquestionably a cockerel. It's only 2 months old, that much comb screams male. Plus, that red color on the wings? a purely male trait, females won't have that color. They'd just have the red around the collar or on the neck/throat/chest area.

So, not a black sex link at all. Could be a hatchery quality black copper Marans.

Thank you. I had pretty much decided it must be a rooster. I heard someone attempting to crow this morning but didn't see who it was. Now to decide whether to keep him or sell him. . . He's not particularly friendly, but is very nosy! He grabs at my fingers if he gets a chance, but it seems to be more out of curiosity than meanness.

you should keep him and get some maran hens and hatch some eggs and sell the chicks
