So my friend is staying in Cali for Christmas and asked my to check on her chickens a few times while she was away. I went today and one of them was sort of limping/walking low. I’m not really sure if it’s bumblefoot or something else, but I have the things to treat it if it is. What should I do?

The first thing you need to do is pick up this chicken and give it a thorough looking over.

Look for scabs and/or swelling on the bottoms of the feet. Look at the scales on legs and feet to see if they are flush with the legs and toes. Scales lifting up can indicate the presence of leg mites, which can be painful and cause limping.

Look at the toes and the nails. Are there any that are hanging and show bleeding from being broken?

Is this chicken eating? How about the eyes? Open and bright? Look at the tail. Is it erect or lying low and flat?

Check under it's foot, if it is bumble foot or maybe just a "sprain" from jumping off the roost or something.
Check the vent, is there any "stuff"?
How old is the hen?
When did it lay last?
Picture would help ...
She will be 2 yrs in March, and i am not sure when the last time she layed was. I will get a picture when I go back there today :)

There is an abrasion on the bottom of her foot, but as i was putting ointment on it and wrapping it, I noticed her hock seemed to be bothering her. I wrapped it in medical tape to "stabilize" it and she (kinda) seemed happier. Her toenails look normal, and there was no large scab on her foot. She is eating, drinking, her eyes are bright, but she is HEAVILY molting so she doesn't really have a tail...
