Black Sex Link or Barred Rock?

I have been reading up on sex linked chicks and am at a point where I am kind of confused! I have bred a Buff Orpington Roo with a Barred Rock hen. From what I understand I could potentially have sex linked chicks? Is this correct or am I totally off base?!

Yes, with a Buff orp rooster over BR hen, all male chicks will be barred, females solid colored. I think there is a catch if the Buff Orp is carrying dominant white or something, but not sure how that would change things.

BRs of both sexes and BSL males all have head spots. You won't really know the BR males from the BSL males till later on. You cannot tell them apart as chicks, sorry.

Thats okay. I was just trying to figure all this out! Maybe I will at least be able to catch any roo's before they hit crowing age and can seperate them for the stew pot!!

If you bred a Barred Rock to a Black Sex Link, you get, basically, a barred rock. 3/4 of the chick's makeup is BR. They wouldn't be classic, show quality BR, since they aren't pure or from heritage stock, but they'll be Barred Rocks for all intents and purposes in performance and appearance.
They won't be BR at all they will be a barnyard mix. Only way to have pure barred rock is to breed BRxBR. BSL is made by two completely different breeds of chicken so a BRxBSL would not be BR. That info is why there are so many mixes out there being sold as purebred just because they look like the particular breed.
