Black sex link thread!!! Pics and info!

Hi all. My Black star is about a year old. After the winter she started laying smaller eggs. And has consistently laid small eggs. I don't think they would even qualify as mediums on the scale. What do you think the reasoning behind her laying small eggs for the last 3 months? I thought the eggs were supposed to get bigger as they get older. My young Gold Stars lay much larger eggs.

No idea, but the first 7 eggs from my black star pullet are all small medium at best. I'm not sure they'll get much bigger as she's not a huge bird at 22 weeks. Tasted great this morning though!

Hi guys I need some advice so TIA to you all! This is my black star Hera. I got her in July and told she was around a year old. At first I didn't care for her personality at all. Very loud and picked on everybody else. I think she is absolutely beautiful though! Lately her personality has gotten better after some "time-outs" in the bad girl pen. She still has not laid me an egg at all and she is aggresive to the roosters and the other pullets as well. The only one she backs down to is my old craggy ameraucauna hen. Last night she got in a fight with my cockerel and he finally backed down and ran away and she roosted on the hen house door so he couldn't come in! LOL

Anybody have any ideas why she wouldn't be laying. She's fed a mixture of laying crumbles, game grower, safflower and sunflower seeds, cracked corn. She receives mealworm treats and has oyster shell available as well. She has added electrolytes and vitamins in her water. She also receives treats from the garden and kitchen (no meat though except the occasional stew, but I pick the pieces of meat out first). I would love any thoughts you may have.

Hey! I'm new to chicken keeping and am looking for a smaller breed-how big are your girls? Are the BSL's a larger bird? I have limited space and don't want to crowd them. Thanks for your help!

I'm on the way to go look at some black sex links and I want to confirm that females have all black heads whereas males have a white spot on their head. Is this correct? Thanks.

Yep. That's how it works, if the chicks are black sexlinks. Not everyone understands the genetics that makes the sexlinking work, though. So you do have to be careful to purchase from a knowledgeable source. Not everybody realizes that second generation chicks are not sexlinks at all.

I got some black sex links about 4 weeks ago and all of them are black with red down chest. But one of them has almost all red chest. I'll post pics
