Oh bird brain I couldn't imagine having to cull one after all you've been through! I would definitely wait until they all crowed... loudly.... several times.... before having to make that dreadful decision. Even though he seems like a shady character, I am going to be crossing my fingers that the guy you got the chicks from actually knew what he was talking about with sexing them.

I guess for now we just have to be patient like kids waiting for Christmas and let our little birds grow to see what they become.

Thats what I am having to do also, but I don't mind keeping roos here so if they do turn out roo they will have a home any ways.

I know TexasLea, It kinds of stinks to be me right now. My daughter picked all of them up for me to get new pics today and just went on and on about how sweet Stella/Stellaroo is. That bird is so attached to me IT (ugh) will follow my hand around trying to climb into it. Sneezy is a lot more standoffish and likes to puff up at you a little it you pick IT up but allowed to choose will be the first one snuggled up if you sit on the ground. The others fall somewhere in the middle but they are all sweet. I suppose I should be hoping that my silkie is a hen as well.

As far as the breeder again, I don't think anything was done maliciously. But he was in fact entirely clueless about sexing them. EVERY alarm bell I have went off in my head but we had driven so far and my hubby just wanted his egg layers replaced. I just think he doesn't set his standards high enough and thinks too highly of his products. I'm so over him. From his add it appears he has all of his SF's for sale so maybe he wont breed this stock anymore and though I LUV my chickies, I think it would be in the best interest of the breed for this line to stop here.
