Black silkie roo and Gray(ish) silkie hen created this??

Hello! I was not aware that black and gray silkies could produce a partridge silkie? I adopted my roo at two days old so I was unaware that it was a boy. I’ve only had silkie hens. He got to work quickly spreading his seeds in the flock lol

Recessive genes cause all sorts of puzzling chicks :)

In this case, both parents must have the genes for that color, but they are hidden by the dominant genes that cause the colors you do see. That chick inherited the recessive genes from both parents, with no dominant genes to hide the effects. That leaves you with a chick in a color you didn't expect.
