Black skin dominant or recessive or incomplete?

If a Silkie chicken is bred to a yellow skinned chicken, what will the color of the resulting chicks skin be?

Depends on if the silkie being crossed is a male or female. There are two genes that cause dark pigmented skin and you must have both to produce black skin. One is sex linked. Fibromelanosis is an autosomal dominant gene while the sex linked gene is the recessive dermal melanin gene.

male is silkie- females will have dark skin and males lightly pigmented

female silkie- males and females will have lightly pigmented skin
